There used to be a time when the Portuguese were experts at designing and building bridges. Apparently that era is gone now.
This bridge didn't even get to be used before rain-drenched earth started sliding down and the supporting structure yielded under pressure. I've seen a lot of bridges sharing the design, but in just a third of this one's size. It looks like the "engineer" didn't think of making the concrete walls also thicker in scale.
There is nothing in the photos for you to get an idea of the size. My estimate from memory is about 12m/40ft height. |
